Today's #FBFMightyWomen is all about the legend that is Winnie Ewing!
.
A prominent SNP politician, as well as a member of both Parliament, Scottish Parliament, and European Parliament, Ewing generated huge support for the SNP in the 1967 by-election. Acting as the Scottish National Party President from 1987 to 2005, Ewing also qualified and practised as a solicitor and notary public, being the Secretary of the Glasgow Bar Association from 1962 to 1967.

Today we’re talking Community Councils!.
.
As the most local tier of statutory representation in Scotland, they bridge the gap between local authorities & communities - empowering more voices across political process. .
We've created a useful factsheet, available on the #ScotWomenStand website - link in bio 🔗💫.
.
"[Community Councils] bring local people together to help make things happen... They advise, petition, influence and advocate numerous causes and cases of concern on behalf of local communities.”.
.
Scotland has over 1,200 community councils - each holding an election at least once every 4 years.
.
However, they often hold by-elections, outwith regular election schedules, filling community council vacancies as they arise. #ScotWomenStand
.
All community councils welcome local residents to get involved, provided you meet the following requirements: - You are aged 16 or over. - You are on the Electoral Roll.
- You are a resident of the community council area. .
