Women in Politics Stornoway

Would you like to make a difference in your community and represent them at your council or parliament? Have you always wanted to get into politics but didn't know where to start? Come along to the Caladh Inn for our two hour workshop where you can learn more. You don’t need to have any political experience, and we welcome women from across the political spectrum (and none). It doesn’t matter how old you are or what your background is, we want to help you get started and connect with other women in the Western Isles who are on the same journey. Former Western Isles councillor Catriona Stewart will be joining us to share her experiences.

Our events are open to all women, cis and trans.

Status of Young Women Scotland launch

YWCA are so thrilled to announce the launch of the third edition of our Status of Young Women in Scotland report, which presents a diverse snapshot of the issues affecting Scotland’s young women today. This year we focused on political engagement, representation, and activism. Nearly 500 young women across Scotland took part in this study, which was conducted by Edinburgh-based social research agency, The Lines Between. We heard some inspirational stories and discussions, which left us feeling hopeful for the future. However, the report also highlights that there is much work to be done to address the various barriers to political engagement that young women in Scotland face today.
