A. How to stand as an MP or MSP - The Parliament Project
Have you considered standing for Parliament but not quite taken the plunge? Do you need more information but don't know where to get it? Come along to this workshop to explore what it takes to stand for Scottish or UK Parliament. The Parliament Project is creating the space for you to ask any question you have ever wanted to about standing as an MSP or MP.
B. Becoming a Councillor - COSLA
How do you go about becoming a Councillor? Join us as we talk though the process step by step and hear from current councillors about their experiences of standing for election, both for political parties and as independent candidates.
C. Accessible Scottish politics - Learning Disability Alliance Scotland
A fun and interactive workshop that will test what you already know about Scottish politics and give you the chance to learn more as part of a team. This workshop is open to anyone and everyone new to politics - please join us!
D. Finding our voice: speak up and speak out! - Active Inquiry
In this dynamic, interactive workshop, Pinar Aksu and Suzanne Dance from ACTive INquiry, a Theatre of the Oppressed Company, will facilitate to explore and consider what silences us, and what supports us to speak up and to speak out. As women within a patriarchal society, what empowers us? How do we claim our power and presence? Suzanne and Pinar presently facilitate the Shakti Women’s Aid Theatre Company.
E. Effectively engaging young people - Scottish Youth Parliament
This youth-led, interactive workshop will discuss why young people’s voices matter, and give you space to explore a range of participative methods used by the Scottish Youth Parliament to gather young people’s views.
F. BAME women in politics - Amina Muslim Women’s Resource Centre
This workshop is a safe space for black and minority ethnic (BME) women to discuss what they feel are the barriers to political progress, including the impact of BME representation and how we might improve this representation. The workshop will also explore ways to overcome these barriers.
G. Board ready women - Government Public Appointments Department & Ethical Standards Commissioner
Scottish public bodies need a range of individuals to join their boards as Non-Executive Directors to provide strategic direction, leadership and expert advice. Public body boards cover a range of issues from health to forestry to justice to finance. Join our information session to hear about the work of public body boards and how to apply for a public appointment.
H. The role of the Scottish Parliament - Scottish Parliament Community Outreach Team
Do you know the difference between Parliament and Government? What role do MSPs from different political parties play? What areas of law does the Scottish Parliament currently have power over? The Scottish Parliament's Community Outreach Team will explore these questions in an interactive workshop to ensure participants are aware of the distinct role of Parliament and the way laws are made and scrutinised in Scotland.
I. Diary of an MSP - Scottish Parliament Community Outreach Team
What is actually involved in being a Member of the Scottish Parliament? How do you balance constituency duties, Parliamentary Committees and other work? How do you prioritise when there are conflicting appointments? In this interactive workshop we explore the diary of an MSP and get the chance to work through some of these questions to get a flavour of a typical week in the life on an MSP.
